Expert from my book Screen-capitalism: Global Korean Screen Culture in Postsocialist China:
"In my treatment of affective symbiosis, I emphasize the idea that transnational inter-action requires “affective thinking” comprising a spectrum of affect gradations that deconstructs both thinking that is void of sensations and emotion that is void of thinking. I demonstrate how screen-capitalism proliferates without respect for borders by reviewing the spread of screen culture on streaming platforms from the multinational over-the-top (OTT) media service such as Netflix to the Chinese video-sharing network Tiktok. This process of screen-capitalist spread is not solely defined by capital but is also shaped by affective exchanges in the context of deterritorialization. This role of affective exchange in the circulation of screen-capitalism potentially contributes to an escape from the capitalist schizophrenic process of simultaneous deterritorialization and axiomatization of new territorialization, through affective communication in the general public’s everyday co-experiences of screen culture. Only if we are grounded in such intimacy of a networked world that screen-capitalism enables can we deal with the possible challenges brought forth by future media transformations and thereby resist the violence of the infinite disseverance of human (relations) in a cybernetic age.
